Last week, Andrea Bocelli closed the opening ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai. The first world fair to be held in the Middle East, the lavish show included fireworks and music by the likes of the Italian tenor, Ellie Goulding and Lang Lang. While Andrea took to the stage to close the event with a goosebump-inducing performance of The Prayer.

The Prayer was originally performed by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion and was released in 1998.

The Canadian singer would sing in English, while the Italian tenor would give Italian lyrics.

The Prayer featured in the animated movie Quest for Camelot with separate solo versions recorded by the stars.

The song went on to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was nominated for an Oscar.

Aside from performing in Dubai, Andrea has been supporting his son Matteo Bocelli with his solo career.

The 24-year-old has just released his debut single and music video for Solo.

Andrea wrote on his Instagram: “Solo, and that’s how things should be.

“You’re going solo, dearest Matteo, with the strength of your legs and your dreams, with your voice and the emotions you will ignite, the smiles you will bring to light up your world!”

Andrea continued as a proud father, praising Matteo by saying: “Going solo, away from those who raised you, the world you grew up in, and yet my greatest hope is that you will never feel lonely, because love is a constant presence; love stays by your side, even when you are far away.

“Solo, your first track, is out today. No title could be more fitting and more beautiful: now that you are a man, you have opened the door to life and the future with a sure hand; you have crossed that threshold alone.

“Now it’s my turn to sit in the front row and cheer for your journey, for your song, as you yourself have done for so many years, proud to applaud your father. You don’t know how eager I am to do it, the pride and affection I feel.

“I’ll have to resist the temptation to say to whoever I’m next to: “you know, that’s my son up there!” – Andrea.”
