Anne-Maries wild life — world champion, public bust-up and live TV blunder

IIt’s fair to say since her music debut back in 2015, pop superstar Anne-Marie has not been out of the charts.

The Essex beauty, 32, has become one of the UK’s biggest music stars thanks to her continuous smash hits including 2002, Don't Play and her recent tune Unhealthy.

Proving there’s nothing she can’t do, Anne-Marie has also released a candid documentary, a book and appeared as a Mentor on reality show The Voice UK.

But before becoming a mega pop star, things were different for Anne-Marie, and she could have gone a completely different career path…

So, as she drops her third studio album, Unhealthy, on Friday (July 28), Daily Star is taking a look inside Anne-Marie’s life.

West End beginnings

Born in 1991 in East Tilbury, Essex, it seemed Anne-Marie always had an incline for the world of showbiz, fame and fortune.

At just five years old, she went to stage school and eventually bagged roles in two West End productions.

She appeared in Les Misérables aged six, and performed in Whistle Down The Wind when she was 12, alongside fellow future pop star Jessie J.

Fast forward to 2018, and Anne-Marie dropped her first album, Speak My Mind – which included the hit singles Alarm, Ciao Adios and 2002.

She then dropped her second album Therapy three years later, becoming her second consecutive top five UK album.

In 2022, she bagged her 10th Brit Award nomination for her collab with KSI and Digital Farm Animals called Don't Play.

World karate champion

Aside from being a mega-famous celeb with eight top ten hits and three top 5 albums under her belt, Anne-Marie is also a triple world champion in the style of Japanese karate.

The Ciao Adios hitmaker started taking lessons aged nine, eventually going on to bag double gold at the world championships, as well as gold at the UK Karate Karate championships in 2002.

"I still love it so much and it's such a massive part of who I am," she told the BBC in 2017.

Anne also credited the intense sport with teaching her the "discipline and focus" necessary for her music career.

In 2019, she created a series of YouTube videos of her teaching her fellow celebs, like Olly Murs, some of her black-belt moves.

Controversial romance

Back in March, Anne-Marie appeared to confirm that she was dating fellow music star Slowthai, after nine months together.

The pair first sparked dating rumours last year when they were spotted on a night out together – which soon turned sour after Slowthai squared up to nightclub bouncers.

In the footage obtained by The Mirror, Slowthai can be seen arguing, before Anne-Marie calmed him down and ushered him into a taxi.

But in March this year, the pair seemed to make their relationship public after Anne-Marie uploaded a loved-up and PDA-packed TikTok video with Slowthai.

The pair haven’t been seen on each other’s social feeds since – but in June, Anne-Marie was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger.

Who is Slowthai?

Rapper Slowthai – real name Tyron Kaymone Frampton has not been shy of creating controversy in the past.

In 2020, he caused quite a scene while at the NME Awards when he confronted a man in the crowd and was restrained by security.

Slowthai threw his microphone and a champagne glass into the star-studded crowd before jumping into the audience.

He was accepting the award for “hero of the year” at the awards ceremony at the O2 Academy Brixton in London when the outburst happened.

The outburst came when Slowthai was allegedly called a “misogynist” by a man in the audience after he made a series of lewd comments directed at comedian and host of the awards Katherine Ryan.

The rapper also infamously held a fake severed head of Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the 2019 Mercury Prize Awards, where he was nominated for Best Album.

Live TV blunder

In 2022, Anne-Marie took to the stage at the iconic Brit Awards ceremony.

The singer who had joined forces with KSI for the duet had just started singing when she tumbled down some stairs.

Somehow the songstress had managed to lose her footing and ended up at the bottom of the stairs.

Her leg appeared to give way as she fell to the bottom of the stage, but after fellow dancers put their hands forward, Anne-Marie pulled it back together while barely missing a beat.

Being an absolute professional, the hitmaker carried on after she'd been helped to her feet.

She stood right back up on stage and continued on with her song as though nothing had happened.

Shortly after her fall, Anne-Marie had fans in stitches when she tweeted: “Didn’t need my left ankle anyway.”

The pop star spoke about the incident in an interview with Cosmopolitan UK – where she explained that her ankle is doing “better than what I thought” after the fall.

“I thought it was going to fall off, the direction it went in,” she joked.

“No, it’s OK,” she continued. “I’m surprised I was even able to walk and carry on the performance. I was just really proud that I did that.”
