2023 marks a career-defining year for Kim Petras as the 30-year-old singer dances her way to the top of the music charts while making history at the Grammy Awards.
AceShowbiz –Kim Petras kicked off 2023 with a bang. Her collaboration with Sam Smith, titled “Unholy”, was a huge success both on the charts and awards circuit, hitting the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 and giving the duo a Grammy award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. It makes her the first openly transgender artist to win a Golden Gramophone.
Fresh off her phenomenal victory, the 30-year-old singer/songwriter continued to show her dominance. Sampling Alice Deejay‘s 90s single “Better Off Alone,” she offered a unique flavor on another potential hit “Alone”. With the added fire verses from Nicki Minaj, it quickly showed a steady climb on the charts, bowing at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
“It doesn’t feel real still. Her singing, ‘It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras,’ I cried. I was on the floor and then she calls me Kim Petty in it, which all my friends are like, ‘How do we not come up with that our entire lives?’ ” Petras said in an interview with Apple Music.
The chart-topping musician added, “So she just changed my life in so many ways with that verse, and that verse rips. I love her and I’m so inspired by her always, it’s crazy to me. I don’t know how she does it, but she’s just the greatest ever. I’m so happy that she likes the song.”
While Grammy-winning “Unholy” was lifted off Sam Smith’s new album “Gloria“, “Alone” is expected to be featured in Kim Petras’ next studio installment. “The Grammys were just a few months ago and really changed my life in a big way,” she gushed, “and then Nicki jumping on the song was just one of the greatest life achievements for me ever in my life, and it’s just been really amazing. It really sped up my album and how people finish it and it’s done now. Yeah, it’s done. It was time to say it.”
