Yachty’s latest album ‘Let’s Start Here’, which serves as a follow-up to 2020’s ‘Lil Boat 3’ and 2021’s mixtape ‘Michigan Boy Boat’, successfully claims the top spots on three Billboard charts.
AceShowbiz –Lil Yachty is flying high with his fifth studio album, “Let’s Start Here”. Arrived on January 27, 2023, the project reached the pinnacle on three Billboard charts such as Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums dated February 11.
The alternative psychedelic rock album also debuted at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with 36,000 album-equivalent units. It marks the Georgia emcee’s third U.S. Top-10 debut on the chart.
Yachty first announced the 14-track, which serves as a follow-up to 2020’s “Lil Boat 3” and 2021’s mixtape “Michigan Boy Boat”, back in early January. Of the project, he explained, “This album is so special and dear to me. I think I created it because I wanted to be taken seriously as an artist. You know? Not just some SoundCloud rapper. Not some mumble rapper. Not some guy that just made one hit.”
“I wanted to be taken seriously because music is everything to me, and I respect all walks of music. Not just rap and hip-hop but everything,” the 25-year-old rap star added. “I wanted to make something that showed the world that shows it, just how great music is to me.”
“Let’s Start Here” earned praise from fellow musicians, including Questlove. Sharing the cover art on his Instagram page, he gushed, “How should I put it? I really really really really love this @lilyachty record and I love when artists pull off a good departure record.”
“Some famous departure albums backfired … Some were pure art that turned off the fanbase that came to the party for seconds of what you served before,” The Roots member further detailed. “Some seemed like career disasters w critics … This aptly titled #LetsStartHere lp might be the most surprising transition of any music career I’ve witnessed in a min, especially under the umbrella of hip hop.”
Questlove then shared a message for Yachty. “Man….whatever you put in your Wheaties bro….keep goin,” he said, before adding, “S**t like this (envelope pushing) got me hyped about music’s.”
