Dan Walker has congratulated Jon Kay as he replaces him on BBC Breakfast.
The 45 year-old presenter and TV personality took to twitter to congratulate the Hull native on landing the full-time presenting role on the red breakfast sofa.
He wrote: “Brilliant news. Congratulations @jonkay01”

Adding: “Great bloke, top presenter and much loved by the #BBCBreakfast team” ending the message with a clapping hands emoji.
BBC star Jon will become the new regular presenter on BBC Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday.
The warm message follows the former BBC presenter’s move to 5 News, for which he now presents alongside Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije – who also hosts a weekend show on talkTV, the network of former breakfast rival Piers Morgan.
Dan previously presented the breakfast programme for 6 years from 2016 to April 2022.
He was also known for his gig presenting Football Focus as well as his work on BBC Radio 5 Live, Final Score and Match of the Day.
The broadcaster also previously took part in Strictly Come Dancing 2021 with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova.
But at the time of his own move, the popular breakfast host expressed how excited he was to join the commercial channel to replace Sian Williams and relaunch their afternoon bulletin.
Explaining his move, Dan said: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the daily news show but I am also excited about making some great new TV for Channel 5.”
Although he would be missed on BBC Breakfast, Dan said that this opportunity was one he had to jump into adding: “I love their ideas and creativity and it’s rare to get an opportunity like this where paths and ambitions meet.
The chance to do something different was too good to turn down.”
The announcement of Dan’s replacement on the long-running breakfast show comes as the BBC also made other programming changes.
The organisation announced former I’m A Celeb campmate and BAFTA winning journalist Victoria Derbyshire would be joining Newsnight.
The 53 year-old newsreader was previously the host of the Victoria Derbyshire current affairs programme on BBC Two from 2015 till it’s controversially axing by bosses in January of 2020.
Since her last show in March of 2020 and after rumors swirled of a potential move to Channel 4 News, it’s been announced Victoria will be joining the team as their joint lead presenter alongside veteran broadcaster Kirsty Wark.
Victoria says: “I am so delighted to be joining the legend that is Kirsty Wark and the talented Newsnight team under new and ambitious leadership.
This is a special opportunity to take on one of the best jobs in British journalism and help shape the programme’s future.”
Whilst adding: “I can’t wait to champion more stories about people’s lives while holding those who represent them to account.”
