The BBC has revealed that a complaint against Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood was previously referred to the police.
The former DJ has been embroiled in bullying and sexual misconduct allegations, which he denies, with six complaints being received by the corporation about the claims.
One complaint of the six was referred to the police at the time, though the BBC said in a statement: “This is a historic case that the BBC has found in its files. We are establishing the facts around it.
"It did not relate to conduct at the BBC, BBC premises, or conduct towards a BBC staff member, nor was it an accusation of physical assault."
They declined to say whether the other five complaints were received before director general Tim Davie said that “no evidence of complaints” were found.
It comes after BBC News and the Guardian published claims of predatory sexual behaviour.
Westwood, meanwhile, has denied all allegations, with a spokesperson stating: “Our client confirms that there has never been any complaint made against him, whether officially or unofficially, relating to claims of inappropriate behaviour of the nature described.
"No complaint has ever been made to the police, and nobody has ever raised these matters, or any colourably similar, with him directly or with his representatives.
"There has been no investigation in relation to him of any nature whatsoever, whether by the police, his employer or indeed any other authority."
The women, who are all black, decided to speak out after anonymous allegations about his inappropriate behaviour emerged in June 2020.
They were all in their late teens or early 20s when they say the incidents happened, with the first alleged incident occurring in 1992 and the last in 2017.
One woman told The Guardian and the BBC that Westwood “undid his trousers” before asking her to turn around and “look at the fact that he’s exposing himself.”
She had been brought into his car under the assumption they would talk about the music industry.
Another alleged she was touched by Westwood while he was driving, though she repeatedly batted his hand away – and claimed he later drove her to his flat.
The DJ allegedly tried to kiss her neck and remove her clothing, before she “submitted” to sex with him.
Westwood was a presenter on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra between 1994 and 2013.
The allegations were the subject of a BBC Three documentary Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power.
