In recent years, celebrities have been offering tutorial videos called MasterClass, in which they share wisdom on their talents. And now The Beatles legend Sir Ringo Starr has joined in with his Teaching Drumming and Collaboration. The youthful 81-year-old made the announcement on his Instagram page by sharing a trailer for his classes.
Ringo captioned the post: “Since I was a teenager, I’ve loved playing the drums and making music with other people. It’s what fills my soul.
“That’s the kind of joy I want you to feel when you play or collaborate with other creators – and what I want to share with you on @MasterClass.
“I’ll take you through my approach to successful collaboration, playing from the heart, and finding your own unique drumming style. Wherever you are on your drumming journey, I want you to love it as much as I’ve loved mine. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.”
The trailer sees the Beatle drumming along in a studio, as he reflects on what he’s learned from his six-decade musical career.

Ringo said: “There’s a tempo to life, there’s a tempo to every song. You can lift the band and the band can lift you.
“In The Beatles, it was like being psychic. We knew what to do and we loved to do it with each other. Best band I ever was in!
“I love to play. I love to sit behind those buggers. It fills a lot of my soul.”
The 81-year-old remembered his time in hospital aged 13 with tuberculosis and being kept busy by a music lady who would come in with percussion instruments.

Ringo shared: “She gave me a little, teeny drum the first time she came in and something came over me that I knew this is what I wanted to do.
“If I can give you anything to take away, you’ve just got to love what you’re doing and you’ve got to do it your way.
“And it doesn’t matter if there’s 40,000 or 40 people, you’ve just got to get yourself some friends and play. The more you play, the better life is.”
The MasterClass is 1 hour and 49 minutes long spread across 10 video sessions, which include the following:
