As one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Billie Eilish had several “stalker” experiences with the paparazzi. Her brother, Finneas O’Connell, shared that these two enter hotels through freight elevators, among other “goofy b*******.”
Billie Eilish appeared in a hotel-themed ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit
Eilish has several Grammy Awards and Grammy nominations under her belt, even earning an Academy Award for “No Time to Die.” In 2021, Eilish debuted the songs “Happier Than Ever” and “Billie Bossa Nova” off of her album Happier Than Ever.
After performing in major cities across the country, Eilish had plenty of experience with hotels. That was made a central aspect of her Saturday Night Live appearance, where Eilish acted in a hotel-themed segment.
The singer acted as a hotel employee, advertising the less-than-average accommodations of Business Garden Inn & Suites & Hotel Room Inn. Who was the guy on SNL in the hotel skit? Eilish acted alongside Kate McKinnon and Willem Dafoe.
Billie Eilish and FINNEAS do ‘goofy’ things to avoid paparazzi
When it comes to her actual relationship with hotels and going out in public, things are complicated for Eilish and her brother/collaborator, FINNEAS. O’Connell shared that sometimes they have to do “goofy” things to avoid getting photographed.
“We have to do a lot of goofy b******* when we go on tour, where we enter through freight elevators in hotels and stuff, so that paparazzi doesn’t follow us to our room,” FINNEAS said during an interview with Rolling Stone.
These habits are somewhat echoed in the Happier Than Ever. That’s particularly true for the “Billie Bossa Nova” lyrics, which tell the story of a fictional backstage romance.
“And so we acted as if there was also a secret love affair going on in there of Billie being like, ‘Nobody saw me in the lobby / Nobody saw me in your arms,’ as if there was a mystery person in her life during all of that,” he added in the same interview.
Billie Eilish had a few run-ins with paparazzi
“Getting Older” also served as commentary regarding Eilish’s stardom, with Eilish singing, “Things I once enjoyed / Just keep me employed now.” Since her debut on the music scene, though, Eilish compared her experience with the paparazzi to “stalking.”
“It’s so weird,” Eilish said during an interview with BBC Radio 2, according to Insider. “I’ve never, ever seen them. I’ve only seen the pictures they’ve taken of me.”
“I can handle paparazzi following me. I can handle pictures of me being taken when I’m not aware. But I don’t want to bring my friends, that have nothing to do with it, into it,” she continued. “The next day, I had to apologize to my friends because they took pictures of my friends without them knowing, in front of their own houses!”
