Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS are known for being transparent with their fan base, ARMY. In a new interview with GQ Magazine, RM of BTS shared why the members choose to share so much about their lives with fans.
RM explained why BTS share ‘the good and the bad’ with ARMY
Speaking with GQ Magazine, RM went into detail about why the members of BTS choose to disclose certain things with their fans. While RM admitted the band members do share things with ARMY, they do not reveal details about their emotions in real-time.
In the interview, RM said:
“It’s a dilemma I still face, because my act of sharing can make me look like a pushover. Many celebrities, stars, and artists choose mystery, preferring to to be seen as enigmatic figures. Maybe it’s because they have many scars, or because they don’t want to open up. Personally, though, I think it’s good to share with our fans both the good and the bad, the pros and cons, and the shadows that hang over us. From an outsider’s perspective, it may look as though BTS’ success has grown exponentially, but that’s not true. It might not have been necessary to reveal we had considered disbanding, but confessions can sometimes make people stronger. We don’t, however, bare our hearts immediately.
Only once the moment has passed and we’ve processed and identified our feelings do we look back and share a more coherent version of what we’ve gone through. In doing so, people realise we, too, are human, which bridges the distance between us. I truly believe we need to open up to a certain extent. But to be honest, it scares me. I’m scared people will think I’m a pushover or that these confessions could be seen as weaknesses and prompt a backlash.”
RM has a lot of thoughts on his relationship with ARMY
Over the years, BTS have earned a reputation for being close with their fans. The two mutually support one another, and BTS’ fandom has grown more and more each year.
In the interview with GQ Magazine, RM shared his thoughts on his relationship with ARMY, saying:
“I think it might be a little dangerous to want our relationship, our love, to evolve in a certain way. After all, I don’t even know which direction my life will take. It’s become impossible to describe the collective ARMY as a certain type of person. So I wonder if I might have to let go of certain images that come to mind when I think of our love. I’ve never expressed my affection for someone as consistently or actively as I have for ARMY, let alone hold such feelings for someone. But these millions of individuals that make up this incredible group have made me into a better person. I have a deep and sincere respect for them. In this way, I’m also their fan. But I do have this hope. As we grow and mature, I hope we’d be able to cheer each other on in our own ways, and that our love would be the kind that allows us to keep our current distance as we walk alongside each other.”
The BTS rapper thinks it is important ‘to be honest’
During his interview with GQ Magazine, RM went into more detail about the balance BTS must strike between being transparent and professional.
“In a way, I think it’s only right to be honest, rather than hiding the negative and always saying, ‘We’re doing well.’ But the manner in which we confess our fears would have to be mature and professionally ethical,” he said.
