Cardi B recently filed a libel lawsuit against YouTuber Tasha K in response to an intentional “campaign of slander.” When taking the witness stand in January 2022, the “I Like It” rapper claimed that these videos caused her anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, even impacting her relationships.
Rapper Cardi B filed a lawsuit against YouTube personality Tasha K
Cardi B recently testified in her lawsuit against blogger Tasha K (real name Latasha Kebe), who posts content under the username unWinewithTashaK. The libel suit sparked after Tasha K posted several videos in 2018 and 2019 claiming the “Up” artist had been a prostitute and had contracted multiple STIs, among other accusations.
Legal name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, Cardi B filed her underlying libel and defamation lawsuit against the YouTuber in March 2019, claiming Kebe’s alleged “campaign of slander” involved multiple vlogs that garnered millions of views.
“None of the aforementioned statements about [the] plaintiff are true,” the lawsuit states. “Plaintiff was never a prostitute or a user of cocaine. Plaintiff has never, and does not now, have herpes, nor has she had herpes outbreaks on her mouth.”
Cardi B testified that she was ‘extremely suicidal’ due to Tasha K’s YouTube videos
In January 2022, Cardi B took to the witness stand in Atlanta’s federal courtroom. The artist shared that she experienced anxiety and depression due to the YouTuber’s “campaign of slander.” This also impacted the artist’s personal life and relationships.
“I felt defeated and depressed, and I didn’t want to sleep with my husband… I felt extremely suicidal,” Cardi B testified, according to Billboard. “Only an evil person could do that s***.”
Cardi B then apologized for using explicit language. The rapper allegedly spent hours on the stand, detailing her experience.
Rolling Stone reports Kebe previously countersued Cardi “with claims of assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.” In this countersuit, the YouTuber claimed Cardi B “began to publicly trash” her online, leading to threats. The judge dismissed those claims in July.
Cardi B continues to release and record new music
Most know Cardi B as the artist behind songs like “I Like It,” “South of the Border,” and “Bodak Yellow.” Recently, the rapper appeared on Lizzo’s song “Rumors” and performed “WAP” alongside Megan Thee Stallion at the Grammy Awards. In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Cardi B matched donations to charitable organizations that fans provide receipts for.
Cardi B’s “Up” earned a Grammy Nomination in the Best Rap Performance category. This wouldn’t be the artist’s first nomination from the award ceremony, as Cardi B snagged the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2019.
Tasha K continues to update fans on her social media platforms and her YouTube channel. There’s no official timeline regarding when a decision will be reached regarding Cardi B’s lawsuit.
