The original voice of Charlie Brown actor Peter Robbins has passed away from suicide aged 65.

His family confirmed the tragic news late on Tuesday evening.

Peter began his career as a child star at nine years old and voiced the much-loved Peanuts character in holiday classics including the 1965 A Charlie Brown Christmas and It's A Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown in 1966.

However, despite a happy childhood, Peter suffered from bipolar disorder and was troubled later in life.

He also spent time in prison and was sentenced to five years in 2015, for making criminal threats against several individuals.

He pleaded guilty for sending the media messages offering money to kill San Diego County Sheriff, Bill Gore.

And he also sent a threatening letter to a property manager who worked at the mobile home park where he lived.

Peter reportedly sent sketches and notes to the property manager and threatened other site residents.

While in prison, he also made threats against the sheriff and offered to give $50,000 (£37,038) to have him killed.

Peter was released in 2019 and managed to turn his life around after he started campaigning for mental health issues.

He had promoted the idea of seeking 'professional help' for mental health issues and was later treated for drugs, alcohol and sex addictions.

At the time, he told Fox 5: "I would recommend to anybody that has bipolar disorder to take it seriously because your life can turn around in the span of a month like it did to me.

"I came out of prison and I'm a better person for it. I'm much more humble and grateful and thankful that I lived through the experience.

His heartbroken family have asked for privacy and revealed will be holding a memorial service for him at a future date.
