Countryfile’s Julia Bradbury set for cancer documentary amid sad health battle

BBC Countryfile star Julia Bradbury is continuing to raise awareness around breast cancer.

The brave presenter — who has documented her journey on social media — has agreed to film a documentary following a "massive outpouring” of support.

A source told the Sun: “Julia has spoken openly about her diagnosis and treatment, because she wants to help other women out there in a similar position.

"She is also very committed to raising awareness. And she has been pleasantly surprised by the response — she has received hundreds of messages of support since her diagnosis.”

The source added: “So when she was approached to make a documentary, she felt it was important to say yes.

“It is going to be a really powerful, emotional watch."

Last month the mother-of-three had her left breast removed after a lump was discovered during a mammogram.

As she prepared for her mastectomy she tweeted: "Goodbye left boob. Thank you. I've breastfed my children w/you, I've jumped into the sea, I've walked thousands of miles with you.

"Now it's time for something new. Wise is the one who flavours the future with some salt from the past."

After the procedure Julia tweeted a picture from her hospital bed and said she had "overwhelming" anxiety before the op and that she was "sad that such a brutal procedure is necessary".

However, she added: "Now I feel relief."

Julia had to wear a specially designed bra for the next six weeks to protect her body after the op.

Julia still doesn’t know if her cancer has spread since the surgery, and has encouraged her followers to check themselves for breast cancer, highlighting that "one person every 10 minutes" gets diagnosed in the UK.

Julia's sister Gina told the Sunday Mirror how the Countryfile star had wept after going for a run before her mastectomy.

Gina said: "Julia’s not really a runner but last week she came in, hugged me and burst out crying. She said ‘I’ve just been for a run.'

"I said, ‘But you don’t like running?’ She said ‘No, I know, but I wanted to feel both my boobs bouncing for the last time.'"

Gina said that the siblings both broke down in tears.
