The Canadian emcee was previously nominated for Best Rap Album for ‘Certified Lover Boy’ and Best Rap Performance for ‘Way 2 Sexy’ featuring Young Thug and Future.
AceShowbiz –Drake has shocked many with his bold decision. It’s reported the chart-topping Canadian emcee, who received two 2022 Grammy nominations, has removed himself from the competition in the upcoming awards show.
The 35-year-old was nominated for Best Rap Album for “Certified Lover Boy” and Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Young Thug and Future. However, sources told Variety that the rapper and his management requested the Grammys to remove his nominations from the final-round ballot.
It remains to be seen what prompted Drake, who already has four Grammys, to take the move. He, however, previously criticized the Recording Academy after The Weeknd got snubbed at the 63rd annual music awards.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” he penned at that time on Instagram Story.
“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways. The other day I said @TheWeeknd was a lock for either Album or Song of the Year along with reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way,” Drake continued. “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”
Drake’s support arrived after The Weeknd and his album “After Hours” failed to land nods at the upcoming Grammys despite its success. The Weeknd himself had put the Recording Academy on blast through his Instagram and Twitter posts for the snub. “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency,” he raged back in November 2020.
