Dua Lipa nearly quit music industry because of extreme abuse from online trolls

Dua Lipa confessed that she nearly quit making music after becoming the target of vicious online trolls.

The Grammy-award winning 26-year-old has catapulted into stardom since finding fame in 2015.

With her number one hits, including One Kiss and New Rules, Dua explains that her chart-topping songs would never have happened if she didn’t overcome the abuse she’d receive from trolls.

The Levitating singer opened up about the trauma she suffered and how the abuse got so bad that she was ready to quit the industry.

She told The Sun: “There were moments of self-doubt, even though it was kind of unfair because a lot of the people that had sent those messages or were saying things online actually hadn’t been to one of my shows."

She added: “Social media is kind of run on this toxic currency of who can make people laugh at the expense of others. Now, if anybody says anything, it doesn’t even bother me.”

Dua has previously admitted that the trolling and abuse got so bad she turned to pal Russell Brand for advice.

She said on her At Your Service podcast last month: “I was interested in starting therapy and he came through with a recommendation. I was going through an intense period.”

The BRIT Awards winner spoke candidly about how her life has changed over the last year following her split from Anwar Hadid, 22.

She explained: “Life is a process. I thought I had it figured out, then things start slipping away.

“It’s been a massive year for growth. I’ve started to understand myself in a different way. I have confidence I didn’t have before. I’m not the same person I was.”

She went on to explain that social media trolls affected her “deeply” and admitted: “I stopped thinking of myself as myself.”

The singer recently touched on her relationship status and how she has been focused on “being good” with being single.

During a recent interview withVogue . “The next chapter of my life is about truly being good with being alone,” she said.
