EastEnders actress June Brown was an unlikely saviour of The Libertines frontman Pete Doherty during the height of his addiction.

June, who played Dot Cotton in the long-running soap, attempted to help him after it was reported that he had been to rehab for addiction.

The singer, who was notorious for fleeing rehab and relapsing, was offered an out by the BBC star.

Brown ran a charity for people with addiction which helped them receive treatment at a Thai monastery.

The place was called Thamkrabok and reportedly had one of the highest success rates in the world, so June offered him their service.

She said: “Anyone can go. We will pay your fare, all you need to do is commit to the treatment. I’m a huge Libertines fan, it would be a marvellous place for Pete to kick his addiction.”

Pete eventually signed himself up and flew out for the stint, but lasted just a few days before he made off for the city of Bangkok.

He went out a second time in 2014, which he said was a more successful trip as he claimed to have recovered.

Alas, the rockstar relapsed "within ten minutes” of arriving home to Margate from the monastery.

June’s sympathy towards addiction began in 1998 when her godson was dropped from his record label.

The musician, named Tim Arnold, also split from his girlfriend and was kicked out of his house within the same week.

He turned to drugs to help cope with the impending stress and the Jocasta singer previously spoke about his drug of choice: "Crack's one of those drugs that, unlike the music business, is completely reliable. You ask it to do something for you and it does it."

With the help of June and his loved ones, he took a trip to Thamkrabok and within three weeks of his return, he had began recording a new album.
