Opened to the public 40 years ago, Graceland was Elvis Presley’s playground and childhood home for his only child Lisa Marie. The King would spend a lot of time in his private upstairs bedroom, but also had some favoured room around the mansion. In a new Q&A a fan asked a Memphis Mafia family member: “Other than Elvis’ bedroom, what room did he hang out the most at Graceland?”
Speaking on his YouTube channel Memphis Mafia Kid, Danny Smith (the son of Elvis’ cousin Billy) replied: “That’s an easy one. Of course, everybody knows he liked to stay a lot in his bedroom but when he wasn’t in the bedroom in Graceland he loved to be in the den, which a lot of you know as the Jungle Room. He sat around in there, watched TV, entertained guests and that’s where we all just kinda hung out. It would definitely be the den.”
The large chair in the Jungle Room, which often has a teddy bear or guitar sitting on it during tours today, would also be a favourite napping spot for Lisa Marie.
Elvis would eat his breakfast on the corner of the sofa just opposite there around 4pm each afternoon. The meal would consist of a Spanish omelette, burnt bacon and black coffee.
