Elvis Presley lived at Graceland from 1957 until his death there 20 years later. The King’s mansion was an open house for his inner circle known as the Memphis Mafia, while the upstairs was his private space. In fact, some family members and friends would live on-site at the property, including his cousin Billy Smith and his family.

Today, Billy appears on his son Danny Smith’s YouTube channel Memphis Mafia Kid.

And now the latter has spoken on behalf of the family, explaining why they don’t visit Graceland anymore.

In the latest video, an Elvis Presley fan asked: “Would you rather go back and visit Graceland or keep it in your memories?”

Danny replied: “I’ll just speak for the family because we’ve talked about it many, many times.”

Elvis’ second cousin replied: “We’d rather keep Graceland in our memories as we lived it and knew it.

“It’s great, don’t get me wrong, to go see Graceland if you’ve never seen it or [to] see it again.

“None of my family’s been in Graceland in a long, long time. Like I said it’s just not the same to us. It was a home. It was love, laugher, fun.”

Nevertheless, Danny admitted that his wife Teresa, who was filming the video, had never been to Graceland and he would like to take her – but for just one time.

Danny added: “We have decided that I want to go back through Graceland one more time with Teresa and maybe some of my grandchildren.

“And that will probably be the last time that I would go back to it.”

In another video, his father Billy shared how he knew when it was time to move out of Graceland.

The King’s cousin claimed he would sense the presence of Elvis’ spirit upstairs in the mansion.

Billy was asked if he ever felt a presence at the Graceland mansion.

He said: “I did. In fact, I guess that was the biggest reason I left Graceland.

“Got to a point where I’d go to sleep, it’d be early in the morning and I would hear him calling me.

“And I even got up and got Jo up too. She used to wake up too sometimes close to the same time.”

However, it was when Billy was by the front of the Graceland mansion and he looked at the upstairs windows that he says he felt something.

Billy continued: “I’d get dressed and I’d go out to Graceland and for some reason I always looked up at his office window because I felt like he was calling me and he was looking out the window.

“Oh boy that…that…got to me. And after they brought Elvis’ casket back into Graceland and they buried it then I felt like I was a little more at ease and it was time for me to get out of there.”

Elvis is buried to this day in Graceland’s Meditation Garden alongside his parents Vernon and Gladys, grandmother Minnie Mae and grandson Benjamin.
