Elvis Presley had some eccentric eating habits even aside from his famous peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches. But did you know he really couldn’t stand eating fish or fishing? In a new interview, The King’s cousin Billy Smith and his wife Jo shared their memories of his disdain for seafood.

Appearing on the Memphis Mafia Kid YouTube channel, Jo said bluntly: “Elvis didn’t like to fish.”

Billy, who grew up with The King before he was famous, admitted: “I couldn’t get Elvis to go fishing. He just wouldn’t do it.

“I can only remember him going fishing twice really and that was just briefly.

“Most of the time he just sat around and walked up and down. He wouldn’t fish.”

While on eating fish, Jo added: “No…I don’t remember him ever liking any kind of seafood.”

In fact, Elvis hated fish and the smell so much he banned seafood for his Graceland home.

Earlier this year. Express.co.uk took part in a virtual live tour of the Memphis mansion, where expert and archivist Angie Marchese shared how The King loved traditional Southern home cooking, just not fish.

While standing in Graceland’s kitchen, she said: “Elvis grew up on good ol’ Southern food.”

Angie continued: “He loved meatloaf, mashed potato, fried chicken…mac & cheese. Anything that he grew up on were some of his favourites.”

While on seafood, the Elvis expert said: “Anything but fish. He didn’t like the smell of fish being cooked in the house. There was never any fish in the house.”

Meanwhile, The King would obsess over one type of food at a time and eat nothing but that meal until he was bored.

His ex-wife Priscilla Presley once revealed that the star enjoyed meatloaf and mashed potatoes so much that he ate it every day for the evening meal over the course of half a year.

Angie also shared that The King’s favourite dessert had to be Mom’s Chocolate Cake.

Next year, Warner Bros will release a brand new movie biopic of Elvis’ life and career.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film stars Austin Butler as The King with Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Tom Parker.

During our virtual live tour of Graceland, we asked if any scenes for the Elvis movie would be shot at his actual home.

Angie replied: “[The Elvis movie] is actually being shot in Australia.

“But they have been doing research here. They have recreated Graceland in Australia.”

Elvis is released in cinemas and on HBO Max on June 3, 2022.
