Fame star Morgan Stevens's cause of death has been revealed – after the actor was found dead at his home in Los Angeles.

The soap star, who was famed for his roles on Melrose Place and Fame, was discovered dead inside his Hollywood home last week (January 26) at the age of 70.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has now confirmed that the actor died of natural causes relating to a heart condition – arteriosclerosis cardiovascular disease.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, the actor's arteriosclerosis is a "slow, progressive disease".

It occurs when plaque build up inside the inner lining of the arteries in the body, which can limit oxygen and blood flow to crucil body organs.

This can lead to heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and death.

It was revealed Morgan had passed when a neighbour called police to conduct a wellness check, because the actor hadn't been seen or heard from for days.

The Tennessee-born star was later found dead in his kitchen just before 11am – police told US outlet TMZ.

Stevens was best known for playing teacher David Reardon in two seasons of Fame, which ran in the 1980s.

He also appeared as Nick Diamond in the primetime soap Melrose Place (1995), as well as Murder, She Wrote.

His final TV role came in 1999 when he starred in Walker, Texas Ranger.

Morgan worked alongside some huge showbiz named during his career, including Chuck Norris and Heather Locklear.

Morgan became an alleged victim of a police brutality case in 1989, when he was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a car accident before being cleared of any wrongdoing due to a blood test.

He claimed he was beaten up by two police offers following his refusal to give back a shirt that he was handed.

Morgan had apparently been waiting in a jail cell for 90 minutes.

An out-of-court settlement was reached following the incident.
