Fitness influencer dead at 27 after ‘bitter battle’ with ovarian cancer

Cheyann Shaw has died aged 27, it has been confirmed by the social media influencers family.

The fitness influencer had been battling stage four ovarian cancer after being diagnosed back in 2016, she had been treated with chemotherapy before having surgery to remove her spleen, appendix, uterus and part of her colon.

One year after her surgery, she announced that she was cancer-free, before sharing the devastating news on January 15 that the deadly disease had returned.

In an emotional Instagram post, her family said: "With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce that our beautiful girl Cheyann has been called home to heaven."

They went on to share a message from Cheyann's mum which read: "My heart is breaking today, our baby girl lost her long battle with ovarian cancer. She fought until the bitter end. She is a true warrior and survivor. She will be truly missed and will forever be in my heart."

The family announcement concluded with: "Thank you all for your support and encouragement over the years. If there's one thing Cheyann taught us is that no matter what battles we face, we can always find a reason to smile through them."

Since the news of her death, hundreds of followers including Destiny's Child songstress Kelly Rowland flocked to pay tribute.

One fan penned: "Rest easy now Cheyann. Thank you for all you gave us."

A second added: "Cheyann you made such a beautiful impact with how you lived your life and shared your struggles with so much grace. My love and prayers to your family & loved ones. I miss you already."

"I think I speak for us all when I say it feels like I just lost a good friend," said a third.

While another commented: "Damn it… She has been through so much and I was hoping she would pull through one more time. She was a warrior that never let her sickness keep her down. She will be remembered as a strong and powerful woman who defied the odds. RIP."

Cheyann, who found fame as a bodybuilder and bikini competitor once said that she was diagnosed with cancer by "accident", going on to say "but that accident, saved my life."

Just several months ago, she said: "I am a cancer survivor, entrepreneur, kid at heart, fitness lover, and just an all-around goofball who laughs at her own jokes lol," in a YouTube video.
