This month marks what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 75th birthday. Three decades on from the Queen singer’s death and his life and legacy have been celebrated with four stunning new NFT (non-fungible token) artworks. Digital art marketplace SuperRare and The Mercury Phoenix Trust are putting these pieces up for auction to raise money for the latter charity.
The Mercury Phoenix Trust was founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Queen manager Jim Beach in memory of Freddie, who died from AIDS related causes in 1991.
The charity funds education and awareness projects around the world to help in the battle against HIV/AIDS.
The four pieces inspired by Freddie will go up for auction for 75 hours on Monday September 20 at 4pm BST, while the NFTs by Blake Kathryn, Chad Knight, Mat Maitland and MBSJQ can be viewed below.
Meanwhile, Freddie’s love of art was expressed in an accompanying statement on the auction.

A post shared by Freddie Mercury (@freddiemercury)
It read: “As well as inspiring countless generations through his flamboyant persona, four-octave vocal range and timeless songwriting, Freddie Mercury was well known for his love of all forms of art.
“Before embarking on his musical career, he attained a degree in graphic art and design (in 1969) and later in life became an avid collector of classical and contemporary art and glassworks.
“In addition, he was recognised as having what experts considered one of the finest collections of Japanese antique woodblock prints.”
Freddie Mercury fans will know that he left a very simple creative brief to the world before he died.
Freddie said: “You can do whatever you want with my work, just never make me boring.”
The statement added: “This simple brief was given to four digital artists as the inspiration for each to create NFT artworks inspired by different aspects of Freddie’s beloved persona.
“The resulting collection takes Freddie’s legacy to the cutting edge of artistic activity… and thus Never Boring.”
The collection has been curated by Six Agency and co-founder Georgio Constantinou.
