Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder has opened up about his brother Paul’s sudden death last month, claiming that he wants answers as the circumstances are “a bit iffy”.

Paul passed away on July 15th at the age of 58, hours before he was due to perform at Kubix Festival in Sunderland with the rest of the band.

The coroner ruled Paul’s death as a result of Ischaemic heart disease and diabetes.

In an interview with MailOnline, Shaun, 59, questioned the ruling and believes it’s related to the Covid vaccine Paul got before his death.

He said "It's a bit iffy to me – he's a 50-something-year-old bloke, he'd had a clean bill of health, and he has his booster, flies over here and dies.

"We're going to be waiting two weeks for the autopsy."

He went on to say that he thinks his brother’s booster jab might have “triggered something”.

Official advice from the NHS states that the vaccine is safe, as it reduces your risk of getting seriously ill or dying from Covid-19.

The jab also lowers your chances of catching or spreading the virus, and protects against new variants.

Following Paul’s death, the band broke the news on Facebook, writing: “The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning.

"A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed.

"We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Shaun went on to admit that Paul’s passing only hit him when he returned to stage without him, explaining: "I’ve just been looking after my mam, so I’ve not really been thinking about it.

"It didn’t really hit me until I went on stage and he wasn’t there. That’s when it really got me but I couldn’t stop the show or anything, I just kept going.”

Paul's funeral was held at St Charles Church in Swinton, Manchester, earlier this week.
