Actress Alice Evans said she shared her marriage split "pain" on social media because she had no-one close to talk to.
She accused husband Ioan Gruffudd of "gaslighting" after he told her he wanted to end their relationship.
She said her break-up from the 47-year-old actor, who starred in TV drama Liar, was now amicable and they are discussing a legal separation.
Mum-of-two Alice, 49, said she used social media to reveal her pain as she has no family or close friends to turn to.
She wrote on Instagram: "Thank you for your kind comments. As for the unkind ones, I get it. Why would somebody share their pain on social media rather than with their nearest and dearest.
"I get that. You must think I'm an a ** . I'm not though. I don't have a mum or a dad. I don't have any close friends in LA. I've looked after my kids for half their lives alone."
Though she said she and Ioan, who have been married 13 years, were "indeed discussing legal separation" she added: "We are still friends.
"You can say what you want about me being an attention seeker but you know it's not true.
"You just want a reason to put me down. Please – go ahead. I'm impenetrable."
Originally from Bristol, the actress met her future husband on the set of 102 Dalmations, but they didn't start a relationship until several years later.
Alice got engaged to Gruffudd on New Year's Day 2006, marrying the following year in an intimate ceremony in Mexico.
In a since-deleted tweet last month, Alice claimed her husband had left the family, saying: "My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week.
"Me and our young daughters girls are very confused and sad."
"We haven't been given a reason except that he 'no longer loves me.'
"I'm so sorry," she added.
