Jason Aldean is one of the biggest stars in country music. The performer has been on the scene since the early 2000s, and has released songs like “Night Train,” “Fly Over States,” “Tonight Looks Good On You,” and “You Make It Easy.”
An award-winning artist who has collaborated with many other stars, such as Carrie Underwood and Bob Seger, Aldean has also had some of his biggest hits written for him—such as the 2018 tune “You Make It Easy.” As Aldean revealed in a 2018 interview, the song was written by multiple country music power players, including one very controversial star.
Jason Aldean’s song ‘You Make It Easy’ was a big hit
“You Make It Easy” was released in February 2018. As sung by Aldean, the song became a big hit, ultimately charting at number one on the Country Airplay chart and becoming Aldean’s 18th number one hit, according to Billboard. Although Aldean’s voice fits the song perfectly, he isn’t the one who wrote the song. That honor goes to Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of the duo Florida Georgia Line, who co-wrote the tune with Morgan Wallen.
As Aldean revealed in a 2018 interview with The Boot, “Tyler (Hubbard) and Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line, those guys have written songs for me in the past…he (Tyler) came over to my house one day, and we were riding around in my truck listening to songs, and he was like, “We just wrote this on Friday! Check it out.”
Aldean said that once he heard the song, he knew it was “something special.” In an interview with iHeartCountry, Aldean revealed that he asked Hubbard if he was planning on recording the song – once Hubbard confirmed that he wasn’t, Aldean jumped at the chance to record “You Make It Easy.”
What is Florida Georgia Line best known for?
Florida Georgia Line was founded in 2010 and consists of singer/songwriters Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. The two are widely credited for the popularity of the “bro country” movement, writing and releasing songs that focus on subjects like drinking, partying, and driving large trucks. Over the years, Florida Georgia Line has released songs like “Get Your Shine On” and “This Is How We Roll.”
The duo is also well known for working with other country artists. A few of the stars that they have worked with include Bebe Rexha, Jason Derulo, Chase Rice, Thomas Rhett, and Nelly. They also love writing with other songwriters – including Morgan Wallen, with whom they collaborated in order to produce the song “You Make It Easy.”
Morgan Wallen is a controversial country musician
Morgan Wallen burst onto the scene in 2018, with hit songs like “Whiskey Glasses” and “Chasin’ You.” Wallen’s rapid rise to fame was derailed when, in February 2021, a video was released that revealed Wallen uttering a racial slur. Although Wallen issued a swift apology, fans and critics were outraged, and there were immediate repercussions for him personally. Country music stations and other major country artists distanced themselves from Wallen, and he was declared ineligible for major awards.
In the years since the controversy, Wallen has been open about his commitment to change. According to Rolling Stone, Wallen claimed to have made a major donation to organizations like the Black Music Action Coalition. Still, the artist has been involved in other controversies, including an incident in October 2020 where his scheduled performance on Saturday Night Live was canceled after he reportedly failed to adhere to coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols. In spite of all his controversies, Wallen knows his way around a hit song – as evidenced by his own hits, as well as the songs he helped to co-author, such as “You Make It Easy.”
