Jesy Nelson warned over blackfishing claims by former Little Mix bandmates

Jesy Nelson's former Little Mix bandmates have revealed that they spoke to her following claims she had been 'blackfishing'.

The singer has faced criticism in recent months, with some claiming that Jesy's skin colour was noticeably different to when she first found fame on The X Factor.

Jesy, 30, has previously addressed the claims, insisting that she meant no harm and admitted that she was "initially shocked" that she was faced with blackfishing allegations adding that she wouldn't go out of her way to appear racially ambiguous.

Now, in a new interview, her former bandmates claim they had tried to warn Jesy.

Speaking to The Telegraph's Stella Magazine, Jade Thirlwall revealed that they don't want to look back on the past but instead want to celebrate as a threesome.

The Geordie native continued: "We've dealt with it in the best way that we know how, and got each other through it."

Discussing Jesy's music video for her debut solo single, Boyz, she said: "We don't want to talk about the video or be critical, but one thing we will clarify regarding the blackfishing situation is that Jesy was approached by the group in a very friendly, educational manner."

In the video, Jesy's complexion appeared a lot darker than what fans were used to seeing, sparking outrage on social media.

Blackfishing is the term used when a white person appears to take on black cultural references which may be done through hairstyles, makeup or even surgery.

Jesy has previously addressed the allegations, telling Vulture : "The whole time I was in Little Mix I never got any of that and then I came out of [the band] and people all of a sudden were saying it.

"But I mean, like, I love black culture, I love black music, that's all I know; it's what I grew up on."

Jesy added: "I'm very aware that I'm a white British woman; I've never said that I wasn't."

She also went on to address claims that people of colour have had their comments deleted and been blocked by Jesy for "calling her out" in the comment sections of her snaps, with the singer claiming: "Maybe it was my team."

Despite Little Mix's admission, Jesy recently revealed that there is no "bad blood" between the four.

During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, she revealed: "We're not talking anymore.

"I know it's sad but, honestly, there is no bad blood from my side and I still love them to pieces, I just wish them all the best, genuinely."
