Johnny Depp arrives in court for £38.2m defamation battle against Amber Heard

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard have arrived in court ahead of the next stage of their legal battle.

Johnny, 58, flashed a grin to the camera on Tuesday (April 13) as he was walked into the building donned in a smart black suit and shirt, with an eye-popping white tie.

However, Amber, 35, was snapped looking more miserable as she turned her head and caught the lens of a photographer, while dressed in a smart grey blazer.

The Virginia USA court saw the former couple enter on Monday (April 12) with them both most likely being incredibly nervous under their smart surfaces as millions of pounds are at stake.

Johnny and his former wife, Amber will go head-to-head in a multi-million-pound defamation case at a Virginia, USA court.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star and Amber are expected to give their evidence in person at the trial with other famous faces such as Elon Musk and James Franco expected to give testimonies too.

The lawsuit is taking place at the Fairfax County District Courthouse in which Depp is asking for £38.2m ($50m) in damages.

The 58-year-old took action against his ex, 35, after she wrote a detailed opinion piece in 2018, where she spoke about her experiences with domestic abuse.

The Jack Sparrow star's lawyers claimed that the article, which was published by the Washington Post, falsely implied that Amber was physically and sexually abused by Johnny when they were married.

Johnny argues the allegations have affected his career, with most notably, his role in Fantastic Beasts being axed.

Though Amber's piece titled "I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture's wrath. That has to change," does not directly name him.

The actress' legal team are reportedly going to argue that she should be immune from the libel suit due to a Virginia law known as an anti-Slapp provision (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation).

According to reports, the ex-couple have been banned from taking selfies with fans and signing autographs outside the court during the trial.

A judge has stopped the pair from taking photos or pleasing fans with signatures on the courthouse grounds.

The order relating to this, stated: "Litigants and their legal teams in this trial will not pose for pictures or sign autographs in the Courthouse or on Courthouse Grounds."
