Julia Bradbury ‘relieved’ that ‘brutal’ mastectomy op is over amid cancer fight

Countryfile's Julia Bradbury has shared a striking image of herself post-surgery after undergoing "brutal treatment" as the presenter vowed to "do anything" to see her children grow up.

Julia, 51, had a six-centimetre tumour as well as her left breast removed following a devastating cancer diagnosis that she shared in September.

Taking to her Instagram page, she revealed that the operation had been a success before admitting that she will continue to fight the disease.

In view of her 133,000 followers, the mum-of-three shared a snap from her hospital bed, showing a large scar across her chest while remaining attached to machines.

She said: "I'm out of surgery. These will be my new companions for the coming weeks & months. I need a drain to channel surplus blood from the surgery & I have to wear a special post-breast surgery/mastectomy designed bra for the next 6 weeks to protect my upper body post-op.

"The marks on my chest are markers for my surgeon to follow during the op."

Julia went on to share some sobering statistics detailing the spiralling number of mastectomies on a yearly basis.

She added: "I've now joined a sadly ever-growing club. Around 18,000 mastectomies are performed on the NHS in England every year. That's up 50% in the past 10 years. (Roughly 100,000 women have a mastectomy in the U.S. every year.) Since the '90s breast carcinoma in situ (the type of cancer I was diagnosed with) has tripled in women & doubled in men."

The star explained that somebody is diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes.

"I feel relief that the operation is over. The anxiety leading up to it was overwhelming," she continued.

Julia went on to explain in further detail: "I feel sad that such a brutal treatment is necessary in so many breast cancer cases, but I choose life. I will do anything I can to live to see my children grow up & if this was happening to any other member of my family, or them, I would swap places in a heartbeat."

Fans and celebrities instantly flocked to the comment section of her post which has since racked up over 60,000 likes.

"Absolute legend!!! Your courage shining bright in that sun. Every single one of us is sending you love and strength," said one.

While another commented: "Sending love Julia your a strong lady keep positive."

"Your courage is incredible," gushed a third.
