Kate Bush’s reclusive life – career revival, cliff-hanging home and £50m fortune

Kate Bush turns 64 and to celebrate her birthday – we're taking a look inside her life.

The singer-songwriter is an 80s music legend and has even resurfaced lately with an old track hitting the charts again due to popular Netflix series Stranger Things featuring it on the show.

Kate has had a huge influence on the music industry and released 36 singles with 25 making it into the top 40 charts.

Other top artists such as Alanis Morissette, Ellie Goulding, Rosalía, Florence Welch, among many more have paid tribute to Kate and her work over the years with many citing her as an influence in their own work.

Kate released her most recent and tenth studio album, 50 Words For Snow, in November 2011, but after her last and second ever tour in 2014 things have been pretty quiet for the star up until this year.

Career revival

Earlier this year, Kate hit headlines once more after her hit from 1985 soared to the top spot in the charts thanks to the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) was featured on the fourth series of the show which was from her album Hounds of Love.

Back then, it entered the UK Singles Charts at number nine and peaked at number three.

However, in the last week of May 2022, Kate flew all the way to number one on the iTunes chart.

The catchy song was played a handful of times on the show and served as a key plot point in saving the life of series fave Max, who is played by actress Sadie Sink.

Private family life

Kate has always kept her personal life out of the spotlight as much as she could and is still happily married to her musician husband.

The star tied the knot with her guitarist husband, Dan McIntosh, sometime in 1992.

Six years later, in July 1998, the couple welcomed their first and only son together, Albert, known as Bertie.

Radio 4 host Emma Barnett recently asked Kate what her son thinks of a new generation discovering her music.

Kate said: "I think he thinks it's pretty cool."

"Our friends kept saying 'have you seen Stranger Things?' when the first series came out so eventually we binge-watched it and have been watching it ever since."

Cliff-hanging home

The family purchased a Devon home in 2005 which has also been the interest of the press as it made the news back in 2018 for all the wrong reasons.

The south Devon abode is situated inches away from the cliff edge and is unfortunately only moving closer.

The mansion is in danger of toppling into the sea below, reported Devon Live.

Steve Gardner, of Devon County Council, told the publication: “That particular stretch of coastline is always on the move. It is always falling away. It is just nature – the land is very soft there and susceptible to storm damage.

“If you live there you can either accept it and let your house fall into the sea. Or you can take action to prevent further danger – but that can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.”

He continued: “You can attach netting to the cliff face. Another option is spraying it with concrete, although these are very expensive and not something the council would pay for.”

The isolated property is set in a whopping 17 acres and although it is positioned on the cliffside, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Kate is so big on keeping the family's privacy that she even campaigned for the best part of a decade for authorities to close the footpath that led around her home – which she eventually won.

Net worth

It is predicted that she’s raking in around £250,000 per week from the resurfaced song which is currently getting over a million streams on Spotify per day – with several remixes also being released, reported The Sun.

Kate is said to have a net worth of $60 million (£50 million) in 2022 which has been built on the efforts of her successful music career, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
