Kerry Katona discusses traumatic hospital visit after being rushed to A&E

Kerry Katona has described her “traumatic” trip to hospital after suffering with irritable bowel syndrome.

The former Atomic Kitten singer described the health condition as “unbearable” after she was rushed to A&E recently.

The 41-year-old worried fans when she shared a snap on Instagram showing her on a drip shortly after she had undergone a boob reduction operation, before informing followers that the problem was a stomach issue.

In her latest column for OK! the mother-of-five went into detail about the pain IBS can cause.

Having initially put the excruciating pain she was experiencing down to a cyst in her ovary, Kerry later realised that she was suffering from IBS.

IBS is a chronic condition that affects the large intestine, and symptoms include stomach pain, severe bloating, wind, diarrhoea and constipation.

In her column, Kerry penned: “My stomach swelled up and was hurting badly. It’s been happening a lot – and I get these horrible, eggy burps,”

“My stomach looks so big, I could pass for pregnant,” Kerry wrote, as she said her hospital stay “wasn’t ideal”.

The mum-of-five opened up on how the condition affects her life and described her hospital visit as “scary” and “sad”.

“It’s so painful at times – I feel like I want my belly to rip open,” she shared. “Thankfully, everything is fine. But staying in A&E on a Friday night was an experience. It was scary, sad and traumatic.”

The TV star is now awaiting test results in order to establish “what food reacts badly in my stomach and what I can’t eat,” in an effort to get her condition under control and avoid another flare-up.

Kerry recently revealed she hoped to emigrate in a year's time to live a dream life under the Spanish sun
