Vicky McClure has finally addressed the relationship between her Line of Duty character, as well as Kelly Macdonald's, despite bosses remaining tight-lipped.
The actress who plays DI Kate Flemming won the hearts of viewers as series six launched, with many dedicated fans of the BBC drama being drawn to the chemistry between Kate and DCI Joanne Davidson.
Vicky's character became close to Davidson following the breakdown of her marriage and increased work schedule which saw the pair spend a lot of time together.
Their bond saw Davidson's relationship with PC Farida Jatri come to blows but bosses continually claimed there was no chemistry between Kate and Davidson.
Addressing whether there was any chemistry, Vicky revealed: "Definitely, yeah."
While show creator Jed Mercurio added: "Oh definitely there was the intention that there was something there but what we found out it was apparently one-sided."
But all is not lost for fans who are hoping that former doctor Mercurio will pen an extra season, with Vicky teasing: "I'd definitely kiss Kelly, she's gorgeous."
Speaking at the event arranged by Martin Compston in aid of Ardgowan Hospice, Ted Hasting's star Adrian Dunbar revealed that he did "no research" before signing up for the police drama.
He admitted: "You read what's happening on the page and see what the character likes and finding the actual character himself and who the person was and if they fit into the persona of a cop."
Following the tense drama that saw the identity of H finally disclosed but McClure revealed that she struggled to keep the secret and actually told somebody before the episode had aired.
Discussing the creation of H, Jed revealed: "Every single character was H at some point, each of these characters (Vicky, Martin and Dunbar), a lot of people thought it was going to be a key character.
"There was definitely some candidates, back in that first season, the people who were most likely were in it, I think that's kind of important if you just bring someone in at the end and say 'Oh it's them', it's such a massive thing.
"It has to be someone who is there when you've got a show that's been on for six seasons, it has to be the most shocking and technically challenging reveal.
"There was a big-time when everyone, even on set thought it was Hastings, we were all like 'You bent b*****d'."
While Vicky revealed she told her fiancé Johnny Owen that the mystery identity of H was in fact DSU Ian Buckells, played by Nigel Boyle.
The major reveal came after four "bent coppers" were discovered to be part of an undercover crime organisation.
