Loose Womens Denise Welch declares shes proud of the woman she is

Loose Women star Denise Welch has thrown her support behind a campaign to improve the visibility of middle-aged women in TV and film.

Taking to Instagram, the 64-year-old shared a heart-warming message about how she is 'proud' of who she is and that women matter whatever age they are.

In the video, the ITV panellist talks about activist Nicky Clark's Acting Your Age Campaign, which was originally launched in 2018.

Denise said: "Hi, I'm supporting 50:50 after 45. I'm very proud of the woman I am today because I've been through a heck of a lot to become her.

"Women matter at every age."

She captioned the post: "I’m supporting the Acting Your Age campaign. ‘The making of a woman who has continued to grow is a wonderful thing to behold’

"Women matter whatever age they are. More representation for older actresses."

Denise's fans commented on her post about how she is an "inspiration".

One person wrote: "Your Amazing Den, I’m fully supporting you, all actresses, and women who are fortunate enough to grow old, a privilege denied to so many."

Another said: "You should be proud Denise you are an inspiration and our queen."

One fan commented: "Love it, I'm 64 and still got a lot of life in me yet," whilst another said: "Iv Just finished your book the unwelcome visitor you are such a total inspiration, Denise."

Nicky started the campaign to highlight and challenge the invisibility of women aged over 45 in the UK entertainment industry and to create meaningful change for all women.

Writing on her website, Nicky said: "We are fighting to ensure that our generation of excluded women, is the last generation of excluded women."

She says that up to the age of 45, on-screen representation in the UK between men and women is roughly equal.

However, things seem to get worse for women once they pass the age of 45.

Nicky wants the entertainment industry to sign up for the Acting Your Age Campaign parity pledge, which calls for equal representation of men and women of all ages, or 50:50 from 45.

Nicky has created an open letter to broadcasters and production companies about the inequality which has been signed by the likes of Denise, David Tennant and Katherine Kingsley.
