Love Island 2021 location rumours heat up as Jersey opens borders to UK guests

ITV bosses have been hard at work planning on this summer's location for Love Island.

The hit series – which has traditionally been hosted in Spain – was thrown into chaos last summer when bosses tried everything to make the show work amid the pandemic.

But unfortunately lockdown restrictions made it impossible for producers to make it happen.

As bosses confirmed that this summer's series will definitely go ahead, it's now the location execs have to settle on.

And it seems as though producers are eyeing up the idea of Jersey as borders are set to open up to UK guests on April 26th.

The Mirror reports that the island of Jersey has been chosen as back-up if returning to the Spanish villa is too difficult to do.

“The Channel Islands get plenty of sunshine so it makes sense to hold Love Island there if we can't get back to Spain,” a source told the publication.

“Either way we're going to put out a belting series. Viewers have missed Love Island for the whole of 2020 and they're desperate to have it back. They're going to love what we do, wherever we do it.”

Daily Star has contacted ITV for comment.

And Jersey might just be the perfect place for this year's summer of love.

Chief Executive of Visit Jersey, Amanda Burns, said of the border re-opening: “We can’t wait to welcome visitors once again to offer a place to relax and rebalance after a tumultuous year.

"As part of the Common Travel Area, travel to Jersey is hassle free, offering a perfect staycation solution for those looking for both space and sunshine. We are also re-introducing our Safer Travel Policy from April 26 to provide a safe environment which optimises the traveller experience."

Jersey, which sits 14 miles off the coast of Normandy, boasts 250 hours of sunshine in June and July, with temperatures typically soaring to 33 degrees in the summer.

Last year both the summer and winter versions of Love Island were cancelled because of the pandemic.

At the time, ITV's director of television Kevin Lygo admitted: “Logistically it’s just not possible to produce it.”
