Love Island’s Hugo Hammond pays heartbreaking tribute as beloved dog dies

Love Island star Hugo Hammond has shared his heartache following the death of his beloved dog and "best friend".

The 25-year-old TV star had grown up with the chocolate brown Labrador named Mocha as he explained it had been a "sad day in the Hammond House."

Paying tribute to his life-long companion, the PE teacher turned TV star shared a number of adorable images of himself growing through the years with his pooch at his side.

He penned: "Today is a sad day in the Hammond house as we said farewell to our perfect choccy lab, Mocha."

"She had so much love to give and just loved being near people. Although, the worst guard dog ever as she never barked."

The cricket player and enthusiast went on to detail all the things he'll miss about Mocha which included cuddles, sharing food with her and "her lovely ooglie bits under her neck".

Wrapping up the tribute post, Hugo said: "Mostly, I’ll just miss having my best friend around for a chat and a cuddle.

"The good days, the bad days (there have been plenty), she knew when I was sad and was still there wagging her tail letting me know everything is going to be ok and for that, I’ll never be more grateful."

He signed off with: "I'll miss you choccy, rest easy pup x"

Hugo found fame on Love Island last year but had quite a difficult time in the Spanish villa and was unable to find his match as he exited the programme still very much single.

Things turned explosive between him and fellow contestant Amy Day when Hugo accused her of "using him".

The pair had coupled up in Casa Amor but problems started to arise as they returned to the Main Villa – with the twosome being dumped from the show just days later.

Tensions started to rise when the couple were reunited for the first time since their departure via video link on an episode of Aftersun.

Amy explained to host Laura Whitmore that she had regretted coupling up with Hugo which saw the former PE teacher clap back with a harsh response.

Hugo replied: "I just felt like a green card to the villa.

"Amy's clearly got a strong opinion but I think people are forgetting that Amy chose to stay in Tyler’s bed on night one, so she wasn’t into me from the start and I just felt like a green card to the villa."

"That is the first time you’ve said that – how funny," Amy replied, while Hugo claimed he'd said it on their date but it hadn't been aired.

In a twisted turn of events, Hugo later admitted that he'd had feelings for Dancing on Ice star Liberty Poole who had been coupled up with Jake Cornish until the final when they parted ways.
