Melinda Messengers agonising Dancing on Ice injury after risky lift popped rib

Melinda Messenger has revealed that her nightmare Dancing on Ice injury left her unable to "laugh or cough".

The former Page 3 girl also recalled the time she had to be spun on one hand during a particularly tough move on the ice rink – a move so dangerous she could only practice it "twice".

The 51-year-old starred on the fourth series of the ITV skating show back in 2009, where she was paired up with professional figure skater Fred Palascak.

The mum-of-three made it to the seventh week of the show, and she had to learn some seriously tricky skating skills along the way – some of which were rather dangerous.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Melinda opened up about her grueling Dancing on Ice journey, and the "horrible" injuries she suffered during her training camp for the show.

When asked if she ever suffered any scrapes on the ice, she said: "Yeah I popped a rib I think at one point, in a lift.

"You couldn't cough or laugh, it was horrible!"

When asked about her biggest challenges on the show, Melinda named a move she had to learn called "The Detroiter", and the trick was so risky that she could only practice it two times.

Speaking about her biggest challenges, Melinda answered: "Oh God, there were loads… I had to the Detroiter, I think it was called.

"Basically, I was spun by one hand over Fred Palascak's head and were were going so fast, that something to do with that equation of motion kept me in the right place.

"But we could only practice it two times because the G-force was so strong."

The glamorous mum also dished out her top tips for this year's contestants, which include Love Island star Liberty Poole and Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberly Wyatt – who also fell over in training recently.

Advising the next batch of stars, Melinda said: "Wear lots of padding when you're rehearsing. Good luck, go for it!

"It feels like it's one of those things that's never going to end. It's quite tough, but it's absolutely brilliant. They'll have the time of their lives."

However, she said that they'll have to be "brave", otherwise they'll never pull off any of the tricky lifts and tricks that show demands.

She said: "You've got to be a bit brave as well, otherwise you'll never do any of the lifts.

Melinda then quipped: "Don't break anything!".

Melinda and Fred were evicted in the seventh week of the show in 2009, after losing the surprise skate-off against pop singer Jessica Taylor.

DOI will return to ITV in January, and it'll be hosted by This Morning's Phillips Schofield.
