Michael Jackson hides behind curtain at 1994 Elvis tribute event
Michael Jackson married twice; first to Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie. He went on to marry Debbie Rowe, a nurse who gave birth to two of his three children. They also divorced, and by the time of Michael’s death he had not been married for some time – but when did he marry Lisa Marie?
Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson met when they were children, with a relationship focused more in fandom than anything else.
Michael was just 16 years old when he met Lisa Marie, according to Randy J. Taraborelli’s Michael Jackson: The Magic and the Madness, while she was only six years old.
Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie’s very famous father, took his daughter to meet the Jackson 5, who were hugely famous at that time.
Michael was the lead singer, who according to Taraborelli, was the object of Lisa Marie’s affections much more than the other members of the group.

This friendship reportedly lasted a long time, and they kept in touch, though their friendship intensified as an ‘adult friendship’, according to Lisa Marie’s friend John Coale, from November 1992.
Taraborelli’s book suggests Michael proposed to Lisa Marie in late 1993, and the couple married in May 1994, just 20 days after Lisa Marie and her previous husband Danny Keough divorced.
Following this, the pair spent some time in the summer 1994 at Trump Tower, where their relationship continued to grow.
A source told the New York Post in 1994, speaking of Michael and Lisa Marie’s time at Trump Tower: “They hold hands, kiss and cuddle, stare into each other’s eyes and look out at the stars together.”
Clearly, in an unlikely turn of events, President Trump and the couple were close for a time, and the president aided them in getting together.
However, while the then-future president was keen for their union, someone else was not: Lisa Marie’s mother Priscilla Presley.
Speaking to The Guardian in 2012, Priscilla said: “Lisa knew I wasn’t happy about her marrying Michael Jackson.
“We had issues over it because of my experience of marrying somebody with that same iconic status and in a strange way maybe history was repeating itself.
“It’s true she grew up in Graceland and then lived with Michael Jackson in Neverland and Michael was like a child and just wanted to have fun all the time.
“How do you not gravitate to that? But it’s not the real world.”
Priscilla thought her daughter “saw something of Elvis in Michael,” but ultimately knew it “could be a disaster”.
In the end, the relationship ended almost as quickly as it had begun, with Lisa Marie filing for divorce just 20 months after their wedding.
She went on to marry two other men: first actor Nicolas Cage, and then producer Michael Lockwood.
Michael married nurse Debbie Rowe, and she had two of his children: Prince and Paris.
His third child, Blanket, now known as Bigi, was born via an anonymous surrogate.
Lisa Marie had four children by her first and fourth husbands, though her second-eldest, Benjamin, died in July 2020.
