Zayn released his third album, Nobody Is Listening, in January, sweeping the album charts through a number of countries. The record ranked within the top 20 in many territories, reaching number 10 in Australia, 8 in Italy and 17 in the UK. This week the Grammy Awards nominations were hit out at by Zayn, who was not included in their line up.

Speaking his mind on Twitter, the former One Direction star posted: “F**k the grammys and everyone associated.

“Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination considerations. Next year I’ll send you a basket of confectionary.” (sic)

His fans arrived in support of the star, with one writing: “Yess. For example One Direction. One of the biggest bands in the 20th century no nominations zero none.” (sic)

Zayn added: “My tweet was not personal or about eligibility but was about the need for inclusion and the lack of transparency of the nomination process and the space that creates and allows favoritism, racism, and netwokring politics to influence the voting process.” (sic)

Zayn was snubbed by the Grammy Awards this year and it is not the first time he has experienced it

His first solo album, Mind of Mine, was also not included in the Grammy Awards nominations in 2016.

The album topped charts in the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, United States and Sweden, he did not receive any Grammy nominations then either.

Meanwhile, Zayn’s former bandmate Harry Styles was nominated in three categories for this year’s Grammy Awards.

Harry’s Adore You was nominated for Music Video, Fine Line was nominated for Pop Vocal Album, and Watermelon Sugar was nominated for Pop Solo Performance.

Liam Payne reveals 'there's more to come from One Direction'

The other former members of 1D, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, were also left out of the awards line up this year.

Zayn isn’t the only star to have hit out at the Grammy Awards, however.

The Weeknd recently lashed out at the awards in an interview with Billboard.

He said: “Look, I personally don’t care anymore. I have three Grammys, which mean nothing to me now, obviously. It’s not like: ‘Oh, I want the Grammy!’”

The Weeknd added: “It’s just that this happened, and I’m down to get in front of the fire, as long as it never happens again. I suck at giving speeches anyways. Forget awards shows.”

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will air live in the United States on March 14.

Harry has been rumoured to perform at the show and would join a collection of other chart-topping artists.

Korean phenomenon BTS are also due to take to the stage next week after securing a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Dynamite.

BTS will be joined by Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, who are also performing and also secured nominations for Record of the Year and Album of the Year respectively.

Harry’s appearance at the Grammy Awards comes ahead of further suggestions One Direction will be getting back together in 2021.

At the moment, the odds on the band reuniting without Zayn this year are at 1/4.
