Paul Rudd Circa 2010 Was Listening To Everything From Synth Pop to Bluegrass — Even a Song or Two From This Broadway Musical

Paul Rudd is known for his appearance in movies like Clueless, This Is 40, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Marvel’s Ant-Man. This actor also loves the Tony Award-winning musical Pippin, even adding one of its songs to his iPod.

Here’s what we know about this Marvel actor and some of his favorite hits, mentioned during a 2010 interview with MTV.

Paul Rudd starred in ‘Clueless’ and Marvel’s original movie, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

Rudd has a career spanning several decades, with some rom-com fans knowing him from his starring role in Clueless. Years later, this actor joined the Avengers as the superhero Ant-Man, known for his unique growing/shrinking technology and humor.

Outside of his starring role as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rudd made his Broadway debut in 1997, playing Joe Farkas in Alfred Uhry’s drama, The Last Night of Ballyhoo. This actor revealed that the Pippin soundtrack was included in his iPod’s library.

Sometimes, this actor shares his love for music. While visiting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Rudd recreated the “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” music video. The actor even broke out into some karaoke while on Howard Stern’s show.

During a 2010 interview with MTV, this actor shared a glimpse into his favorite genres of music. Spoiler alert: most genres were included on his iPod, even bagpipe/Irish music, comedy records, and “a few children’s songs.”

“And on my iPod, you’ll find some synth-pop, some hard guitar rock, ‘80s new wave stuff, bluegrass, old country, and then, you know, maybe a song from Pippin,” Rudd said. The actor, unfortunately, did not reveal which song from Pippin made the cut.

The soundtrack is currently available for streaming on Spotify. That includes fan-favorite tracks like “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky.” About three years following this interview, a Broadway revival of Pippin began performances at the Music Box Theatre.

Paul Rudd appeared on Broadway in addition to his work on the silver screen

Clueless eventually became its own off-Broadway production, with Rudd sharing his support for the remake. However, this actor never reprised his role as Cher’s angsty yet “do-gooder” older step-brother, Josh.

According to Factinate, before the musical debuted, this actor hoped his favorite Clueless scene would be adapted, “where Cher, Josh, and Cher’s father hear a ring and all whip out their flip phones at the same time. Rudd loves the scene because it was cutting edge at the time before even ten-year-olds had cellphones.”

Some productions featuring Rudd, including Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Captain America: Civil War, are available on Disney+. Clueless is available for streaming with a subscription to HBO MAX. Physical copies are available at retailers like Amazon and Target.
