Devastated Phillip Schofield will not watch Holly Willoughby’s return to This Morning on Monday (June 5) because it will be “just too devastating” for him, his pals say.

The 42-year-old broadcaster is expect to return to the ITV daytime show alongside Josie Gibson following the disgraced presenter’s explosive scandal.

It comes after the dad-of-two shared his support for his former co-star in his tell-all interview with BBC last week.

But despite wishing the blonde bombshell the best on her return to the beloved programme, his pals explained to The Sun that he won’t be tuning in for her first episode back on the sofa.

A close friend told the publication: “He physically could not watch – he's not there yet. Even listening to the opening credits would be hugely triggering.

“His family is being incredibly careful not to have the TV on when he’s in the room to ensure he doesn’t see anything.

“Of course, he is aware Holly is back on air today and he absolutely wanted her to shine, and smash it.

“But he physically could not watch – he is not there yet,” they explained.

The mum-of-three returned from a holiday in Portugal over the weekend to face the cameras for the first time without Schofield.

In a special statement at the start of the show today, Holly is set to tell viewers of her heartbreak at the onscreen break-up with Phillip.

But despite the scandal, the broadcaster will vow that the programme must go on as she prepares to find her feet without her former friend.

Phillip and Holly presented the show together for 13 years before his explosive exit last month.

She will be joined by the former Big Brother star Josie when she makes her first appearance on This Morning after a fortnight’s break.

A source previously told the outlet of Holly’s nerves in returning to the ITV set, explaining: “Holly is naturally nervous about this and is being supported by This Morning.

“Speaking about Phil and what has happened is not going to be easy and emotions are running high.

“Holly is a consummate professional but this will arguably be one of the toughest things she has ever had to do in her television career,” the insider added.
