Piers Morgan flabbergasted as fan mistakes him for GMB replacement in mix-up

Piers Morgan was left flabbergasted after he was mistaken for his Good Morning Britain replacement by a confused fan.

The former GMB presenter stopped to pose for a sweet picture with the girl – only for her to name him as former MP Ed Balls, who took over from Piers on the ITV morning show.

Piers found out about the hilarious blunder after the fan's mother tagged him in the photo on Twitter.

The woman named Diane wrote: "When your daughter texts 'I’m next to Ed Balls! I’ll get a photo'."

She added facepalm and laughing emojis, and Piers showed his shock when he shared it and wrote "WHAT??!!".

Hundreds of people seemed to like the funny tweet as fans complimented Piers and said it was a "nice photo."

In the picture, Piers and the girl were seen smiling together on a busy-looking street lined with onlookers and cameras.

Ed Balls took over as Susanna Reid's co-host after Piers Morgan famously stormed off the ITV set and later quit in 2021.

Susanna and Piers worked side by side for five years before Ed was named as his replacement.

Piers left the show after he refused to retract his thoughts about Meghan Markle after thousands of viewers complained.

ITV said at the time: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

This Morning viewers have since speculated whether Piers could make a return and step in for Phillip Schofield after he announced his exit last week.

It comes after Phil and Holly Willoughby were rumoured to have a backstage fall-out.

Piers has since responded to the rumours and said: "Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Phillip Schofield at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV.

"Unfortunately there's just one problem: I still don't believe a single word Meghan Markle says!"

One fan joked: "Please do this. TV shows like this will be worth watching!"

Another said: "It would make interesting TV."

While a third wrote: "That's you out of the running then!"
