Rebel Wilson, 42, the Australian actress best known for Pitch Perfect and It’s It Romantic, made headlines in 2020 after shedding over 80 pounds, or 5.5 stone.
Her health transformation was an inspiration for millions as her fans praised her after sharing the results on Instagram.
But how did Rebel lose the weight? While some rumours suggested she used a Hollywood diet known as the Mayr method, which focuses on improving health through digestion, Rebel said "this was NEVEER my diet".
In 2022 she was revealed one of the main motivations that led her to making the dramatic decision.
It all started after a fairly routine doctor’s appointment and what he said change her life forever.
Why did Rebel Wilson decide to get healthy?
At the start of 2020, Rebel visited a fertility doctor intent on freezing her eggs in the hopes of becoming a mother one day.
Speaking to People, she revealed: “He looked me up and down and said, ‘You’d do much better if you were healthier.'
“I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh God, this guy’s so rude.’ He was right.
“I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. [When] I thought of a future child’s needs, that really inspired me to get healthier.”
Her weight loss journey began in January 2020 and even a global pandemic didn’t deter her from her ambitions.
She added: “It wasn’t a goal to get to a certain weight,” she explained. “It was just being the healthiest version of myself.”
She also opened up about the emotional tole her weight had on her and how it impacted her dating life.
She explained: “It was about dealing with the emotional issues that caused me to emotionally eat, and that’s a process.
“You cry a lot, analyse things. I’d never done that before. It’s really hard to know why you don’t feel worthy when people look at my life on paper and say you’ve done all these amazing things.
“That’s what I’m trying to overcome.”
How did Rebel Wilson lose the weight?
Rebel didn’t follow a strict exercise routine that involved compound movements or long gym sessions.
What she did is free for all and can be done immediately – she walked.
She made sure to go on a daily walk that when combined with her diet made a real and significant difference.
Speaking on Time to Walk, the actress said: "My goal was to get healthier and lose the bodyweight I didn't want.
“I knew deep down that I wasn't the healthiest version of myself because of work commitments."
What diet did Rebel Wilson follow?
Rebel didn’t follow a specific weight loss diet, but she did maintain a high-protein one.
It was one she admitted she felt best on while also maintaining a caloric deficit.
The star has been open about how she would eat two or three fast food meals a week, tipping her over 3000 to 4000 calories a week.
During her ‘year of health’ she restricted herself to 1500 calories per day allowing her to not have to “eat clean” everyday so long as she didn’t go over her limit.
This is the classic calories in verses calories out and is one of the simplest ways to shed some extra pounds.
Speaking to Women’s Health, she said: "The biggest lesson I've learned is how to deal with my emotional eating, learning to process my emotions and deal with my emotions better."
"That's what's really changed my life for the better."
