Breaking into Hollywood and making it as an actor is no mean feat but those who succeed often go on to lead glamorous and very wealthy lives.
So to land a role in a major TV series before your 10th birthday and then to star in more than 40 productions means you should be set for life.
Which makes what one of Tinsel Town's best-known child stars did at the height of his fame even more unfathomable.

Gabriel Damon Lavezzi is now 46, but he's still best known for his role in RoboCop 2 when he was just 14. He went on to star in more than 40 films and TV shows.
But now, three decades on, Gabriel, who played teenage criminal Hob in Irvin Kershner's 1990 action movie, has turned his back on Hollywood, quit acting and is working as an estate agent.
Selling houses and apartments in California – even if they are luxury multi-million dollar homes – is a far cry from his days as an actor in TV studios and film sets in Hollywood.
Gabriel's acting career began in commercials, but in 1984 aged just eight he got a role in the TV series Call to Glory. After that he went on to voice the character Littlefoot the Apatosaurus in the first The Land Before Time movie.
More roles flooded in, including Little Nemo in Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. But in 1990 it was his role as the juvenile criminal Hob that propelled him to stardom.
Between 1984 and 2006 he appeared in 44 films and TV shows. These included ER, Call to Glory, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Baywatch, The New Lassie and Who's The Boss?
But inexplicably in 2006 Gabriel decided to 'retire' from the entertainment industry aged just 30 to retrain as a real estate agent.
He now works as a real estate broker at Cabrillo Estates Realty in San Luis Obispo County. California.
Little is known about his private life as he doesn't appear to be active on social media and is rarely photographed. But it is known that he got married to fellow actress Angela Almanza in 2007.
