Sarah Jayne Dunn, who has been sensationally sacked from Hollyoaks after refusing to take down her OnlyFans account, has said her husband has been “super supportive”.
The soap star has parted ways with the soap because “talks broke down”, but it was revealed last week that she signed up to the site so that she had more control over racier images of herself and she had “thought long and hard” about the decision.
Sarah Jayne, who plays Mandy Richardson in the hit Channel 4 soap, also explained that her husband Jonathan is totally behind her OnlyFans journey, despite her initially feeling “really anxious” about doing it.
Speaking on The Capsule podcast, the 40-year-old said: “Obviously, I’m married as well, and my husband has been super supportive.
“All my friends and family know, it’s not something where I’ve gone, ‘Ooh, let’s keep this under the radar’, I want to own it.”
A spokesperson for the show said that cast members are not allowed to be on 18+ websites because “Hollyoaks is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers”.
The spokesperson told Metro: “We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.
“We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans.”
They added: “In the past four years since her return to the show her legacy character has been an integral part of some of our most important storylines and we will be very sad to see her go.”
Sarah Jayne joined Hollyoaks in 1996 and has been in the show on and off ever since.
She has thanked fans for their support after being sacked and said in a lengthy post: "It’s about empowerment and confidence and having full power over my choices.
"That's what this is about, being in control, choosing empowerment. I feel sexy and strong and confident when I shoot images like this.
"I hope I give other women the confidence to own it, to work hard on themselves, to eat well and healthily and to move their bodies in whatever way makes them feel most alive and energised, to wear whatever they like without judgement and to feel proud to be a woman."
Clearly torn about her decision, the actress decided to leave the show just 12 months later before she made her final return to the village on a full-time basis in 2017.
Hollyoaks airs on weekdays at 7pm on E4.
