‘Shang-Chi’ Star, Simu Liu, Is Named an Honorary Belieber After Jamming Out to ‘Sorry’ in 1 Video

Simu Liu is a massive fan of boba and singing. He also shared his support for the Grammy Award-winning artist Justin Bieber and his song “Sorry.” Here’s what we know about this actor from Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Simu Liu starred as Shang-Chi in Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’

Some know Liu from his role in the comedy series Kim’s Convenience. Recently, this actor starred as the title character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Disney introduced Marvel fans to Shang-Chi, a martial arts master living in the United States with his best friend Katy, portrayed by Awkwafina.

In Marvel’s movie, Liu’s character showcased his singing skills while jamming out to karaoke with Katy. That even included an impromptu cover of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin.

For Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album, Liu was featured on the song “Hot Soup” with 88rising. The track currently has over a million plays on the streaming platform Spotify. Years earlier, though, this actor shared his support for the Grammy Award-winning artist, Justin Bieber.

Simu Liu named “Sorry” by Justin Bieber as a ‘jam’

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Liu appeared in one 2016 video in conjunction with CBC music, deciding whether or not a song is a jam or not. When “Sorry” by Bieber played through their headphones, Liu started dancing in his seat.

“This is such a jam,” he decided. “It doesn’t matter how old you are. How is this not catchy to you?”

Unfortunately, Lee didn’t agree that this song was a jam after confessing that he had heard it too many times already.

“I know I’m jumping on the bandwagon with this, but Justin Bieber really — he’s doing what every kid would do if they were given $200 million and just free reign of the world,” Liu said. “Maybe a pet monkey.”

This video resurfaced after Liu earned became the title character in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. As a result, some named him an honorary “Belieber” or a fan of the “Sorry” singer. However, Bieber has not responded to this support from Liu.

Simu Liu showcases his own singing skills with YouTube covers

Outside of his love for “Sorry,” sometimes Liu showcases his own singing skills. In 2020, AJ Rafael teamed up with Liu to cover “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexha ft. Florida Georgia Line. The year prior, the two created a holiday medley, titled “Have Yourself A White Christmas.”

“Hot Soup” and the other tracks from the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album is available on most major music streaming platforms.

The Marvel movie debuted on Disney+ on Nov. 12, 2021, joining already-released blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War
