Sinead O’Connor reported Shane MacGowan to police for heartbreaking reason

Sinead O'Connor once reported Pogues singer Shane MacGowan to the police.

The late Irish singer called the cops on the star which resulted in him being charged with drug possession.

In 2000, Shane was found with a small amount of heroin on his person after Sinead sounded the alarm.

Though the charges were eventually discontinued at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in London.

At the time of his arrest, Sinead said she phoned emergency services after finding him collapsed on the floor of his home.

Sinead said: "I love Shane, and it makes me angry to see him destroy himself selfishly in front of those who love him."

This comes after Sinead was confirmed dead by her family on Wednesday (July 27).

They shared a statement which read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.

"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

Prior to her passing, Sinead had created a final social media post which was a tribute to her late son Shane who took his own life last year aged 17.

Sinead penned: "Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul."

In 2022, the star announced her son's tragedy on social media with a heartwrenching post.

Sinead wrote: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

"May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."

Shane had gone missing for a period before he was announced as dead, and Sinead used her platform to urge fans to try to help he find him.

She also used social media to appeal for Shane to come home and not to do anything to himself.

Sinead tweeted: "Shane, your life is precious. God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing.

"My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself.

"Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to hospital. This is a message for my son, Shane.

"Shane, it’s not funny anymore all this going missing. You are scaring the crap out of me.

"Could you please do the right thing and present yourself at a Gardai station. If you are with Shane please call the Gardai for his safety."
