While ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast host has yet to address the 76-year-old singer’s diss, several celebrities, including Howard Stern, come to his defense.
AceShowbiz -Spotify has granted Neil Young‘s wish. The streaming service reportedly has taken down the “For What It’s Worth” singer’s music after he complained about Joe Rogan‘s presence on the platform.
Spotify confirmed the news on Wednesday, January 26. The company started removing Neil’s songs just two days after he challenged it to choose between him and the podcaster, who has been accused of spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines.
The 76-year-old sent out his ultimatum on Monday. In an open letter to his management team and labels, he said, “Please immediately inform Spotify that I am actively canceling all my music availability on Spotify as soon as possible.”
“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” the musician continued. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”
“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” the Canadian-American crooner further stressed. “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
While Joe has yet to address the matter, some celebrities came to his defense. One in particular was Howard Stern, who confessed that he “doesn’t listen” to the UFC color commentator. Despite no longer being “friendly” with one another, Howard said on his Sirius XM radio show, “I don’t want to see Joe Rogan cancelled… Everything in this world comes down to money.”
Agreeing with Howard’s statement was Joy Behar. Although she acknowledged that the comedian is “a horror” because of his COVID beliefs, “The View” co-host believed that Spotify doesn’t need to kick him out. “The way to counter that speech is with more speech,” she opined. “The way to counter it is with boycotts.”
Joy’s co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in, “I’m not saying that Joe Rogan should be removed from Spotify. He’s got 11 million listeners, he’s got a $100 million contract, as of 2020, but I do think, as the podcast platform, you have to have some sort of guidelines.” She added, “How about a disclaimer on his podcast, that says ‘This is misinformation.’ How about removing some of the podcasts that disseminate this misinformation?”
