Strictly Dan Walker explains adorable ‘Uncle Bubba’ nickname his niece gave him

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has shared the adorable nickname given to him by his young niece.

The presenter, who has been competing on Strictly Come Dancing, is a family man at heart and has three children of his own with wife Sarah.

But he seems to be close to his niece, too, as she has been sending Dan adorable artwork to support him through his Strictly stint.

Taking inspiration from Dan’s inspired lobster costume on this weekend’s show – in which he and partner Nadiya Bychkova danced to Lobster Rock – his niece Rosa painted a fabulous picture of a lobster, with googly eyes added on for maximum effect.

She had used her hand and footprints to complete the lobster’s claws and body, and signed her name at the bottom of the painting with three kisses.

Dan explained to his Facebook followers that Rosa calls him ‘Uncle Bubba’ – evidenced by the sweet note she’d written on the back of the picture.

It read: "To Uncle Bubba. I love the jobs you’re doing. Love Rosa."

Dan explained: "The lobster jive went down very well with our 4-year-old niece, Rosa.

"She calls me ‘Uncle Bubba’ and came around today to drop off her painting."

Dan’s followers instantly headed to the comments section to show their love for the sweet picture, as one posted: “That’s a great painting! You must keep it. Well done Dan, looking forward to your next dance. You’re doing so well!”

"That’s so precious. I love her painting. Fridge worthy for sure!" someone else chimed in.

As another fan wrote: "Aww bless her! That pic wants putting up on show. Well done Rosa!"

Dan also spoke about how "shocked" he is to have made it through to yet another week of Strictly after rocking through Halloween week.

He wrote: "Try not to look too shocked. Failed again.

"Thank you SO much for the support. The lobsters are still rocking into November! See you tomorrow Nadiya!"

Dan uploaded a video of him and Nadiya still in their glittering red costumes, as he expressed his sorrow to see Judi Love eliminated from the competition.

"I know I say this every week, but it’s really sad to see Judi and Graz go, because she’s part of our hotel club.

"There’s a few of us that meet together in the hotel every Friday and have a socially distanced meal, and she’s been a real star of this competition."

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6:45pm on BBC One.
