Craig Revel Horwood has failed to foxtrot into the top 100 Christmas single charts – despite claiming he would challenge for the top spot.
For his musical debut, the Strictly Come Dancing judge, 56, partnered with Rietta Austin for the track It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas!.
But with a few days to go before the Crimbo number one is unveiled, early figures have his tune outside the top 100 in the singles charts.
A BBC insider said: "Craig has been crowing about his musical single and singing skills for a while. But this release is nothing but an unmitigated disaster.
“There are some major players in the chart rundown, but to not even trouble the top 50 is really embarrassing.
"But to fail to get a look into the top 100 is another level of cringe. He is losing out to acts whose singles are over 50 years old. The music career was good for PR, but seriously is scoring a 0 in reality.”
Craig had been on a media promotional tour boasting how he would win a chart battle with LadBaby, Adele and Mariah Carey.
The former West End star boldly declared earlier this month on The One Show that he was headed for the top slot.
He said: “I mean that is genius, absolute genius.
‘Come on, if that’s not a hit what is?
“Of course, I’m going to number one, I have no shadow of a doubt.”
The current chart has Sausage Rolls for Everyone by Ladbaby in the number one slot followed by Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran and Elton John and classic Last Christmas by Wham.
Craig’s management was contacted for comment.
The TV personality previously told The Mirror: "Ed Sheeran and Elton John have no chance next to my single. It’s going to be a number one."
"I think it will be judged as out of character for Craig Revel Horwood from the TV. But I’m a trained singer and performer, which people forget. If they don’t like it, they can lump it."
