BTS is constantly releasing new content. In that way, it’s challenging for Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook to keep up with fan responses. Here’s what Suga said about this K-pop group and how being “three years behind” in receiving praise is actually their strength.
BTS is one of the world’s biggest boy bands, releasing songs ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’
Whether it’s trendy posts to Instagram or recently released music, the BTS members are known for breaking the internet. Primarily, that’s thanks to their worldwide fan base, known as the BTS ARMY, who help songs like “Dynamite” and “Permission to Dance” rocket to the top of global music charts.
With millions of ARMYs, it’s challenging for BTS members to keep up to date with people’s responses to their music. According to one rapper of the group, Suga, that’s one of their biggest strengths.
“We’re always three years behind in our ability to take in people’s responses,” Suga said during an interview with GQ Magazine. “We have no idea what people are thinking at the time.”

ARMYs know BTS for their humble reactions and even their humble beginnings, debuting with what was (at the time) considered a small record label. BigHit Entertainment has since transformed into HYBE Corporation, with BTS becoming the world’s biggest boy band.
“In a way, that’s our strength, but it does mean we’re still awkward and embarrassed by the praise we receive,” he continued during the same interview. “We’re thinking, ‘But we’re not on that level…’ And I still get both excited and nervous about performing on stage.”
BTS became the first K-pop group to perform at the Grammy Awards, also becoming the first Korean band to earn a nomination. They broke YouTube records with their “Dynamite” music video and then again with the “Butter” music video. Recently, BTS collaborated with Coldplay for “My Universe,” featured on Music of the Spheres.
ARMYs themselves are known for making grand gestures toward this K-pop group. For birthday celebrations, fans rented LED Billboards in cities like Manhattan and Seoul. In response to BTS’ “Love Myself” campaign with UNICEF, ARMYs donated millions of dollars.
BTS shared their real-time reaction to earning a Grammy nomination
Even if some responses are delayed, BTS is known for constantly interacting with fans during live streams or with the fan to artist communication platform Weverse. The K-pop idols also created individual Instagram accounts, sharing glimpses into their everyday lives with ARMYs.
The BTS members also posted their live reactions to being nominated for their first Grammy Award. RM, V, Jungkook, and Jimin appeared on a couch together. RM even jumped out of his seat when “Dynamite” was named an official nominee. (The other members were asleep when the live announcement was made.)
