Taylor Swift Midnights album – everything we know about her 10th studio album

October 21, 2022 will see American songstress and lyricist Taylor Swift drop her highly anticipated 10th studio album, Midnights.

Fans of Taylor, or Swifties as they're known, have been theorising and anticipating Midnights since Taylor announced it at the VMAs on August 28.

Upon announcing the album, she took to social media to notify fans and penned: "This collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams."

Taylor added: "The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve, we’ll meet ourselves."

So, when will Midnights be released? What's the overall vibe and aesthetic of this era? And what's the full track list?

Scroll on to discover all of that and more….

Midnights release date and album cover

Taylor Swift fans can rejoice because Midnights will come out on October 21.

CDs and vinyl LPs have been available for some time, with merchandise and signed editions also available.

The first Midnights album cover that the world saw had a "moonstone blue" aesthetic and accompanying marble vinyl disc.

But soon after Taylor released three alternative covers – all with different aesthetics entirely: Blood Moon, Mahogany, and Jade Green.

It was then revealed that if fans were to collect all four vinyl versions, the back cover will make a working clock. She's so clever, right!?

Full track list of Midnights

Taylor devised a very clever way to release the track list one song title at a time.

Midnights Mayhem with Me was a series on TikTok that saw Taylor sit in a different outfit with a different hairstyle and a bingo machine beside her.

She would then pick out a number and reveal the title of said number from the track list.

But things didn't quite go to plan when the track list was released, which then led to Taylor announcing all remaining tracks in one night.

01 Lavender Haze

That's not all though! If you get the Lavender Marbled CD – which is available from Taylor's official store, HMV in the UK, or Target in the US – you'll get bonus tracks.

Clues, Easter eggs and foreshadowing

So far there have been many clues and Easter Eggs, with the biggest clue being what the vibe of Midnights might be.

From what we've seen by the aesthetic of this era and what Taylor has been wearing, it looks like it may be inspired by the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Not only this, but some fans think she foreshadowed this album back during the Lover era in 2019.

Taking to Twitter one fan penned: "I keep finding more and more Easter eggs that we missed for TS10. There’s so many, some even dating way back to the Lover era.

"She absolutely knew that she wanted to follow Lover with Midnights. I wouldn’t be surprised if track 1 is called Midnight so it follows from Daylight."

"I think so too! and folklore and evermore were more surprise albums that came about due to the pandemic," added someone else.

Not only this, but during her music video for The Man – which was from the Lover album, Taylor could be seen standing by a wall which had "Karma" spray painted on it – which happens to be the title of the 11th track.

Some other fans think that track five – You're On Your Own, Kid – was hinted at recently.

When Taylor received her Honorary Degree back in March this year (2022) she said in her speech: "You're on your own now; but the cool news is: You're on your own now!"

Other notable potential Easter eggs for Midnights that fans have spotted:

  • Pyjama merchandise hinting at sleepless nights/Midnights
  • Wearing a "Bejewelled" dress to the VMAs
  • Merchandise confetti used during Folklore era was in the shape of stars
  • Same type of piano used in ME! music video as on Jade Green album cover
  • She wore all black to a Haim gig in London in July
  • Exclusive Lavender disc hinted at Lavender Haze track

Fan theories of Midnights

In the beginning stages fans were adamant that Taylor would be collaborating with a host of musicians for TS10 – but these were soon debunked.

Fans were sure that Drake, Blackpink and Ed Sheeran would pop up on the album – with many other placing bets on Katy Perry making a cameo.

There was also a slew of theories where fans speculated that Taylor's ex Harry Styles might appear on her Midnights album.

After the pair both stepped out wearing star-covered garments on the night Taylor announced her album, fans were adamant that the pair would be collaborating – although this seems to have not been the case.

But during her Midnights Mayhem with Me, Taylor revealed that she would be collaborating with Lana Del Rey on a track entitled Snow On The Beach.

In an Instagram clip about the track she revealed that the song is "about falling in love with someone at the same time as they’re falling in love with you, sort of in this sort of cataclysmic, fated moment where you realise someone feels exactly the same way that you feel."

The collaboration announcement came after eagle-eyed fans spotted Taylor at Lana's party earlier this year, and wearing a jumper that she also wore in a video of her recording the Midnights album.

Will Taylor Swift tour in 2023?

There are many rumours about Taylor going on tour in 2023 – especially because her last tour was for the Reputation album in 2018.

Taylor was supposed to tour in 2020 with Lover Fest – but this was cancelled due to the pandemic.

But it seems as though the iconic performer could be returning to the stage amid her Midnights album.

Multiple sources have told PageSix that Taylor is planning a huge stadium tour for next summer.

One insider said: "Taylor has some really ambitious plans in place. She’s excited to get back on the road after such a long but fruitful break."

Although rumours are swirling, Taylor is yet to announce a tour.
