Tess Dalys real name she used to marry Vernon Kay that only her mum calls her

TV presenter Tess Daly will star on Ru Paul's Drag Race UK tonight as she judges contestants alongside AJ Odudu on their best celebrity impressions.

The Snatch Game episode will see the likes of Danny Beard, Dakota Schiffer and Cheddar Gorgeous compete against each other in a quiz to see who does the best imitation.

This will be Tess Daly's first appearance on the show, with previous guests including Alison Hammond, Geri Horner and Elizabeth Hurley.

But what is Tess' net worth and what is her real name?

Here's everything you need to know.

What is Tess Daly's real name?

Earlier this year, Tess revealed that the name that everyone knows her as is, in fact, not her real name.

Tess' birth name is Helen Elizabeth Daly.

The 52-year-old has always used the name Tess, and has been presenting Strictly Come Dancing under the moniker since 2004.

In an interview earlier this year, Tess confessed she was actually christened as Helen and hasn’t officially changed her name out of respect for her parents.

She told Weekend: “My mum’s really the only person who still calls me Helen, and that’s not often.

“She tends to call me ‘love’, so when she does say ‘Helen’ it can take me a while to respond.

“I’ve never changed it by deed poll or anything because I think it would be disrespectful to my parents."

Why did she pick the name Tess?

When Tess started her career as a model at the age of 17, there was already someone with the name ‘Helen Davies’ at the agency, so she was told to change it because her name was deemed too similar.

The TV star said she was given the name because her agent at the time was “obsessed” with the actress Nastassja Kinski who starred in a film back in 1979 called Tess.

“So Tess it was. I was gullible and impressionable. Mind you, two weeks later I was in Japan then travelled the world. Paris, Milan, New York,” she explained, adding that her agent thought she looked just like German actress Nastassja.

Even though long-term partner Vernon Kay doesn’t call her Helen, she married the TV hunk under her real name when they exchanged vows in 2003.

What is Tess Daly's net worth?

TV presenter Tess has a reported net worth of £3million, according to The Sun.

Her annual income is reportedly around £1m, thanks to her multiple business ventures and TV presenting roles, including Strictly.

Tess' career started out in modelling after she was scouted outside a McDonald's restaurant while waiting for her sister in Manchester.

This career path led the model to live in countries including Paris, Tokyo and New York.

She also starred in two Duran Duran videos for the songs Serious and Violence of Summer (Love's Taking Over), and appeared nude in the video for The Beloved's 1993 song Sweet Harmony.

She later switched modelling for TV, presenting the likes of Get Your Kit Off, Smash Hits TV and SMTV Live before she bagged the Strictly co-presenting role alongside Bruce Forsyth.

Prior to his death in 2017, Bruce left the show in 2013 and now Tess Daly co-presents that dancing competition alongside Claudia Winkleman.

Ru Paul's Drag Race UK will return to TV tonight at 9pm on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
